Welcome to the YMCA MYIG Middle School Program
The YMCA Michigan Youth in Government Middle School Program introduces students to leadership, civic engagement and public speaking through fun, hands-on learning experiences. Designed specifically for middle school students, the program provides a welcoming environment where participants build confidence, develop new skills and discover how they can make a difference in their schools and communities.
Students can choose from three unique program areas, each offering an engaging way to explore government and leadership while working alongside peers from across Michigan. Whether participating for the first time or returning for another year, every student has the opportunity to learn, grow and find a place where they belong.

Program Area Choices:
- Legislature – The Legislature program is a simulation of the Michigan Government. Students write a bill on a state topic, debate with peers and advocate for issues they are passionate about.
- Contemporary Issues Form – CIF is a six-round debate tournament, where students form teams of two and prepare arguments for both sides of the yearly topic.
- Political Compromise – PC is an intro program to what MYIG has to offer. In PC, students learn how to write bills, work with fellow delegates and find the issues they are passionate about.
