Michigan YMCAs to Help More than 5,000 Kids

Michigan Department of Education Grant Supports Learning Enhancement

Twenty-four YMCAs and 66 locations have been selected to receive funding through the Michigan Department of Education. This funding will allow YMCAs to enhance Day Camp, Overnight, and other programs with Reading, Math, Science and Social Emotional Learning.

The grant, which totals more than $2,3 million will be used for direct care staff, training, curriculum enhancement and increased access. This funding helps to continue the YMCA's ability of assuring that no child will be turned away because of inability to pay for services.

The backbone of the State Alliance has made this initiative possible, providing the connection to multiple resources for curriculum development, best practices and unified financial support. Because of this collective work, Michigan YMCAs received the largest grant to any community organization from the Department of Education.

Michigan YMCAs from  Monroe to Marquette and from Benton Harbor to Bay City have trained staff and are implementing the program. Young people and families will be supported in this work as the programs will provide great fun and experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime. In addition, the academic support that an enrichment that is needed will enhance the great programs already in place.
